Fire completely destroyed a reproduction Neolithic roundhouse on the 17th April in Tunstall Forest. Built and run by volunteers someone set alight to and destroyed this building, also damaging the roof of another nearby project still under construction.
Currently closed due to the Covid 19 restrictions, we hope to restart the schools programme later this year, but this wanton vandalism threatens to set back our volunteer programme, drain the charity’s limited funds and make the whole experience for school children less informative and enjoyable.
We would like to raise money to pay for the materials needed to rebuild the roundhouse. Our volunteers do all the work by hand using traditional tools and techniques of construction. This project will also provide an opportunity for school children visiting the site to understand how the building is constructed as well as taking part in the heritage based workshops run especially for them.
